World Youth Day - Days in the Adelaide Diocese July 11-14, 2008

We need your help! Pilgrims will be arriving from all over the world to spend some time here in Adelaide in the week before WYD Sydney. Contact your parish office if you are able to help billet two of these pilgrims (aged 18-35 years) for the period July 11-14, 2008.

The Archdiocese of Adelaide will be hosting its ‘Days in the Diocese’ Festival from the 7th to the 10th July, inclusive. During this time the Archdiocese will be hosting large numbers of young people from all over the world. These young people will be accommodated in the homes of people linked to Catholic parishes and schools. There will be many local programs organised and some centrally organised activities. World Youth Day - in Sydney, July 14-21, 2008

Reflection

“They ask us to lead them to Christ, the only One who has words of eternal life (cf Jn 6,68). Listening to young people and teaching them requires attention, time and wisdom. Youth ministry is one of the Church’s priorities on the threshold of the third millennium. With their enthusiasm and their exuberant energy, young people ask to be encouraged to become “leading characters in evangelization and participants in the renewal of society” (Cristifideles laici, 46). In this way young people, in whom the Church recognises her own youth as the Bride of Christ (cf Eph 5,22-33), are not only evangelized, they also become evangelizers who carry the Gospel to their peers, even to those who do not know the Church and have not yet heard the Good News.”

“The experience of Youth Days is an invitation to all of us, Bishops and pastoral workers, to constant reflection on our ministry among young people and the responsibility which we have to present to them the whole truth about Christ and his Church. How can we not interpret their massive, willing and enthusiastic participation, as a constant demand to be accompanied on the pilgrimage of faith, on the journey which they undertake in response to God’s grace working in their hearts?”

Pope John Paul II, May 8th, 1996

World Youth Day Movie Fundraiser

The World Youth Day Pilgrims from our cluster are having a fundraiser to support costs of their trip to Sydney – screening two movies on Sunday 25th May at the Wallis Theatrette on Richmond Road. (A small theatrette with seating for 70!)

At 1pm we will screen the hilarious comedy Evan Almighty (about a modern day man who is asked by God to build an ark to save the world). This stars Morgan Freeman and Steve Carrell and is rated G.

At 3pm we screen the romantic comedy “Definitely, Maybe” about love and hope (rated PG).

Tickets to either movie are $10 and this includes a drink and popcorn.

Please support us by coming along. Tickets are available after mass from Tristan or David Kilmartin at Goodwood, or Hugo Chis or Kathryn Pettersen or Andrea Fairlie at Colonel Light Gardens or can be ordered from the Parish office.
